Counting Your Blessing

Hem Your BlessingsWow, just typing the title of this post makes my head spin. The shear anticipation of where to begin is enough to make me rethink the whole thing.  Count my blessing; yeah this might take a while. But for your sakes I will plod along and just maybe you will also be reminded of just how blessed you are too.

I’ll try to make this short, sweet, and to the point.  Here we go!

This has been a crazy few weeks and a very telling new year. In the few short weeks since this year has begun I have learned some things about myself that were quite frankly surprising. I think I experienced every kind of emotional upset, short of a nervous breakdown, in the last month or so. Being a missionary certainly comes with its ups and downs and I have been on the bottom side of that equation. Or at least that’s what I thought, but I’m getting a head of myself.

So it probably all started back in May, 2011 right around the time our (Oneal and I) visas were about to expire. In Ecuador there is no way to renew your Tourist visa after you have remained in Ecuador for a period of 9 months. The only options are to leave the country and come back after a year or apply for your permanent residency. We chose the latter, believing that the former was not an option since our work here in Ecuador had only just begun.

To make a long story short a friend of a friend who was visiting from the US referred us to his sister, who just happened to be best friends with an Immigration lawyer.  This was not a mere serendipitous circumstance; I know God had our backs.

It was not exactly smooth sailing from there on in — in fact it was anything but. (more…)

Senate Bill 1867 Annihilates the Bill of Rights

by Wonda Elizabeth Perry

President Obama Signing a bill into lawDespite the sixth Amendment’s guarantee of a right to trial, Senate Bill 1867 — the National Defense Authorization Act — would allow the government to indefinitely, lock up anyone they deem a threat. This could include, but is not limited to journalist, bloggers, political activists, anyone who is “supposedly” anti-government, members of various religions, etc.

For those of you still in the dark it’s time to wake up and fight the tyranny, not from those on distant shores, but from those in the highest seats of authority in our own lands.

This new bill would allow American citizens to be arrested, detained, tortured and killed without due process. The basic elements of due process as laid out in the US Constitution in the fourth Amendment, guarantees freedom from search and seizure without probable cause. No person may be detained without probable cause and without being informed of the charges against him.

Under the sixth Amendment those accused of a crime have the right to a speedy and public trial by a jury of their peers, and they must be informed of the charge or charges against them. The defendant has the right to face his accuser or accusers and to effectively defend himself by providing his own witnesses, who are compelled by law to testify, and he is allowed an individual attorney to aid in his defense. Furthermore, it is necessary that the client/attorney relationship be one of trust and confidentiality.

This provision of confidentiality between the defendant and his attorney is also covered under the fifth Amendment which says that no person “shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself.” Additionally both the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments state that due process shall apply to every person. The Biblical Three Person Godhead

In this study we will seek to uncover the Biblical evidences in regards to the three persons that comprised the Godhead.

In various churches it is commonly taught that Jesus is a created being or a superior-angel and that He did not exist from all eternity. Many of these Churches also believe and teach that the Holy Spirit is not a person, while others conclude that He does not exist at all.  But what do the Scriptures have to say? Let us turn to the Bible to find the answers concerning the Godhead.

1). What is the Biblical definition given for the three persons that comprised the Deity?  “Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.”–Acts 17:29.  Also read Rom. 1:20; Col. 2:9.

Note.  The Bible’s definition of the Deity is Godhead and not trinity.  If trinity is not a Biblical term where did the expression come from?  What does it mean?  In a review of history we find that the word trinity was first used in the second century by *Tertullian; yet the doctrine itself was not invented until the fourth century.
